We received a nice email from a summer school teacher about how Adam, one of her students, used some of the "Links" on the Bean Pot website to do research for his project "The History of the Automobile".

It's nice to know students are using the website for educational purposes.  It is also encouraging that the younger generation has interest in automotive history.

The text of the email follows below.

Good Morning!

I just wanted to send a quick thank you for the Boston Northeast Region AACA website!   One of my summer school students was doing research for a project he's doing on the history of automobiles, and he somehow ended up on the links page (this one:
http://www.beanpotaaca.com/Links.htm).   We thought we should tell someone that we've been using the links there, hopefully that's okay!   He found some great information for his project and we enjoyed all the Gus Stories!

It was actually Adam who pointed out that we should say thank you, so I suggested that we also return the favor and pass on another resource!  He did some more research and found this for you:

"History of Henry Ford & the Model T" -
http://www.shearcomfort.com/history-henry-ford-model-t.asp

It's a timeline of Henry Ford & the Ford Motor Company, with great links to learn more. He thought you might want it for the page, for any other students that come across the website!

Hopefully you can use it, Adam would be thrilled to see it! Thanks again and happy driving this summer.

Sincerely,
Adam & Miss Holden

Sam's 1937 Ford Coupe

The first Grand National Meet held within a day's drive of New England in quite a while was held at the Pennsylvania College of Technology Campus in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  The Susquehannock Region AACA hosted the meet and it was a huge success with approximately 450 AACA National Prize winners on display.  Bean Pot member Sam DeMarco from Lynnfield, Massachusetts displayed his 1937 Ford Coupe and won a Grand National Award.  The next paragraphs are in Sam's words and describe his history with 1937 Ford Coupes.

I bought my first '37 Ford in Saugus, Massachusetts when I was 16.  Found it under an apple tree, buying it from a man named Richard Parker.  My uncle Arthur rebuilt the engine for me, and I had a lot of fun with that car.  I sold the car when I enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, but always loved it.  Fourteen years ago I found a shell of the very same model at the National Fall Meet Hershey, and have over the past years restored it to an AACA Senior Car.

Qualified to go to the AACA Grand National Show in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the car was spectacular: out of 450 cars qualified to be there, it was the only 5-window coupe in the show.  It received the Grand National award for Originality.  If you look quick, you'll spot the car as an extra in a snowy parking lot in movie "The Finest Hours."

A long lost 1932 Ford boat-tailed speedster created by Ford designer  Eugene "Bob" Gregorie for Edsel Ford was sold in March of 2016 by RM Sotheby Auctions at Amelia Island, Florida.  The car was built in 1932 on a stock 1932 Ford Model 18 V8 chassis.

The third owner damaged the car in a 1930's accident.  Thought by most people to be lost to history, it had been acquired by a body shop owner in Connecticut who repaired it using circa 1935 Chevrolet body parts.  The body shop owner later sold the car then re-acquired it some 20 years later.  After his passing, it was then sold by his family to a long-term friend who had it restored it back to its original configuration.

The Hemmings daily blog of Monday, Jan 25, 2016 has a comprehensive story about the Speedster with many pictures.

Bean Pot Website Usage Tips

Tips

Depending on your browser and other factors you may have to refresh the page to get the latest version of a webpage.   The reason for having to do this is that sometimes your browser is reading the cache files on your computer and not reading the pages from the website.  Experience has shown, that sometimes you have to do a refresh 2 or 3 times.

If you are using Firefox or Chrome click on the curved arrow to reload the page.  In Chrome you can right click anywhere on the website except for an image, then select "reload frame" and or "reload".

If you are using Internet Explorer, hit the F5 key, or using the menus do a View>Refresh.
___________________________________
Windows - Internet Explorer Settings

You can change a setting in Internet Explorer that will help the refresh situation.

Make sure you have "Menus" turned on in Internet Explorer.

From the "Menu" bar select "Tools"
(then make the following selections)
>Internet Options
>General Tab
>Browsing History then select
>Settings
> ... and then select the top radio button "Every visit to the page"

Note that the exact menu paths in Internet Explorer will vary slightly depending on which version of Explorer you are using.
